BD3-REAP 3rd Cohort Scholars

Alyssa Bright

Alyssa Bright

Alyssa is a junior who transferred from Irvine Valley College to Cal State Fullerton in Fall 2018. She is majoring in computer science. After taking biology and psychology courses, she found an interest in research. Through her statistic courses, Alyssa learned the R software, and realized how big data analytics can connect and expand these fields. As a BD3-REAP scholar, she hopes to combine her multidisciplinary knowledge with her computer skills to scientific research.

Brandon Tomich

Brandon Tomich

Brandon is a junior who transferred from Orange Coast Community College in Fall 2018. He initially majored in electrical engineering and later found himself having a larger interest in Computer Science after taking a course on C++. Brandon is also interested in machine learning and data science and hopes to apply these skills into private industry. His future goal is to pursue his master’s degree and attend graduate school.

Gwendolyn Lind

Gwendolyn Lind

Gwendolyn is a senior majoring in mathematics with a concentration in probability and statistics. She has an interest in business due to her involvement in her family's businesses; she currently works with her father. The most challenging part of starting a business is attaining customers and figuring out why they are interested in your product. This is why understanding the psychology behind consumerism is a topic Gwendolyn is interested in pursuing. She finds analyzing data to make inferences quite fascinating. This is her first time being in a research program and is looking forward to the new experience.

Juan Cabrera

Juan Cabrera

Juan is a junior majoring in mathematics (Probability and Statistics concentration) with a minor in Computer Science. His research interest include data mining, data visualization, machine learning, neural networks, deep learning, and artificial intelligence. His career goal is to receive his Ph.D. in Statistics to continue his research in this field and become a professor in mathematics. He loves to share his knowledge of mathematics, enjoys literature, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Maria Diaz

Maria Diaz

Maria is in her second semester of her junior year at CSUF currently pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science with a minor in mathematics. Her career goals are to work for organizations that use machine learning as a tool to help stop forced labor and sex trafficking. Maria's research interests are machine learning, big data, and statistical analysis. Through BD3REAP, She hopes to learn more about the process of turning large volumes of data into scientific conclusion.

Mimi Ngo

Mimi Ngo

Mimi is currently in her second semester of her junior year at Cal State Fullerton. She transferred from San Diego Miramar College and is pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Public Health. Through the BD3-REAP program, she hopes to learn how coding is used with big data to conduct epidemiological studies. She believes the program will help expand her knowledge on research and global health. After graduating, Mimi plans to attend graduate school for her master's degree.
